In January, Regina Public Schools began transitioning to PowerSchool, the new student information system (SIS) that will replace SIRS. Since then, there have been significant steps forward in the project. School administrative assistants and high school vice-principals have been taking online training courses on how to use PowerSchool. Student demographic data has been imported into the central database and high school vice-principals have been scheduling students into classes for the upcoming school year.
A significant aspect of the new student information system is a robust, easy-to-use, web-based classroom management system designed by teachers, for teachers, called PowerTeacher. PowerTeacher is fully integrated with PowerSchool so that teachers will have real-time access to student demographics , student emergency contact information, medical alerts, photos, attendance and grades. A powerful gradebook application is included in PowerTeacher that will allow teachers to enter and manage marks and track quizzes, exams, and daily homework. PowerTeacher will also be used by teachers to take online attendance in the high schools. PowerTeacher is completely web based and will be available to staff outside of the RPS network.
Parent and Student Access to Information
The system also has a portal where students and parents can obtain real-time information. Planning will begin in the fall for allowing access to this Student and Parent Portal.
